Evans Welch Makes Bermuda NT Debut
Intercontinental Football Academy of New England (IFA) would like to congratulate 2009 DPL Girls player Evans Welch (16) who made her debut for the Bermuda Women's National team on Thursday November 27th.
Following winning her first international cap at the U17 level earlier this year, Welch earned full National team honors with a substitute appearance in Bermuda’s 4-0 over the Cayman Islands in Group C of the Concacaf W Qualifiers. Taking the place of Khyla Brangman in the 89th minute, Welch managed to get one shot on target in her time on the field. The Concacaf W Qualifiers is the qualifying tournament for the 2027 World Cup. Bermuda currently sits second in Group C behind Guatemala.
A student at Williston Northampton School, Welch has had quite the month. The Wildcats reached the Class B final of the NEPSAC tournament, losing out to St. George’s school in the final. For her performances on the field, Welch was named as an WWNEPSSA All-Star Game participant.
In 2024 Welch was one of five student-athletes, and the only female beneficiary to receive a Bermuda Football Association Legends Scholarship. Discussing the award which supports her studies at Williston Northampton, Welch said in July of 2024: “I’m giving myself not more than four years to break into the Bermuda senior women’s team.” She has achieved this aim, three years ahead of schedule.
The 2009 Girls will participate in the DPL for the first time this spring. Last season they enjoyed tremendous success, reaching the National Academy League National Championships where they finished in the top four.
