NCAA COLLEGE CUP UPDATE

It was a dramatic weekend in the college soccer scene with all three divisions of NCAA National Championship brackets taking shape. Here’s the headlines from an IFA alumni perspective. 

Mens DI

Will Cleary
played the full 90 minutes as Stanford defeated Kansas City 1-0. Cleary had four shots in the narrow victory. The Cardinal will host former Pac-10 rival Washington on Sunday evening in the third round.

Also advancing to the last Sweet Sixteen are Austin Bush’s NC State who overcame Marshall by 2-0. They will now face state rivals, UNC Greensboro at 6pm on Sunday. Another North Carolina side advancing to the last 16 are Ian Hecker’s Duke Blue Devils. In a thrilling matchup, Duke came back to win 2-1 against the #5 ranked Princeton. They will now play Akron. 

Mens DII

JJ Forskin’s #2 ranked Franklin Pierce Ravens took it the full 120minutes and more to defeat University of Wilmington 5-4 on PKs. They will host #14 Gannon University on Sodexo Field Sunday November 30 at 4:00 PM.

Mens DIII

Tufts University played Bowdoin College for a place in the final four on Sunday in a match that featured three IFA alumni. The winning Jumbos had Ellis Denby play 59 minutes whilst on the losing side were Adam Prince and Arthur Dos Santos in a 2-1 win for Tufts.. Denby as well as Griffin Bone and David Marotta will travel to Roanoke College in Virginia for the Final Four. Tufts will face St. OIaf College for a place in the National Championship Game on December 5th.

Womens DII

IFA coaches Matt Johnson and Kevon Isa saw their Franklin Pierce Ravens advance to the third round in dramatic fashion with a last minute winner to overcome Mercy. Brigid Moore started the match and played 66 minutes for the Ravens. An additional four IFA alumni are on the FPU roster: freshmen Aubree Usher, Gabriella Stirlacci, Katherine McArdle, and Olivia Goss.
